Audubon Swamp Garden

Known For
Boardwalk winding through a bald cypress swamp full of wildlife
Audubon Swamp Garden at Magnolia Plantation is a 60-acre cypress and tupelo maze where alligators sun themselves feet from the boardwalk — cozy nook is a generous description for somewhere this primordially wild. Very few places in South Carolina feel this genuinely removed from everything.
🕐Best time to visit: Early weekday mornings before tour groups reach the boardwalk
Our Take
The Audubon Swamp Garden sits within Magnolia Plantation and delivers a genuinely eerie, beautiful blackwater cypress swamp experience that feels worlds away from downtown Charleston. With a smaller review pool it flies under the radar, and that relative obscurity is part of what makes it feel like a real find.
